Recently, Mable, a Gold Star Mother, was presented the Gold Star license plate in honor of her son Andrew, who served in Vietnam. Any member of the immediate family of a person who died in a combat zone while a member of any branch of the armed forces may apply for the Gold Star Family license plate.

The submissions are in and Byron Borgmann from Delaware Hayes High School is our winner! The Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) launched the contest last month, which was aimed at students in grades 9-12. The BMV requested original artwork related to the BMV.

BMV Investigations Northeast District Investigator Mike Russo was named the 2015 Law Enforcement Investigator of the Year by the Ohio Auto Theft Investigations Assocation at their annual seminar held at the University of Toledo. Mike completed a lengthy, complex investigation regarding forged applications for titles which were then used to secure numerous fraudulent title loans totaling over $59,000 by a ring of 19 persons. The leader of the criminal organization, Hakeem Sultaana, was found guilty in the Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court for charges including organized crime and theft and was sentenced to 15 years incarceration while the other members of the organization were also charged and convicted for their roles in the criminal enterprise.

Officials Caution Motorcyclists to be Careful This Riding Season
The BMV received many submissions in response to their request for BMV-related artwork! BMV staff narrowed the artwork down to these 5 submissions. Please log onto BMV's Facebook page and vote for your favorite piece. The winner will be announced Friday, May 1. The winner's artwork will be permanently displayed in the BMV headquarters in Columbus and temporarily displayed in the Statehouse over the summer.

We are excited to announce another successful installation of the BMV Self-Service Terminal! Now you can skip waiting in line and renew your vehicle registration in 60 seconds at the Marcs located at 1828 West Henderson Road in Columbus.

This is part of a planned one-year pilot project to test Self-Service Terminals so the general public can obtain vehicle registrations and stickers…not where the BMV is, but where you are.

Over the next few months, self-service terminals will be installed at other locations across the state. Check BMV's web site for locations and details!

Robin Meadows is this quarter’s “What’s on Your Plate” winner with her personalized plate, SURVR2X. Robin is a two-time breast cancer survivor and chose her plate to spread awareness and to show you can survive breast cancer, even twice. We are happy to report Robin is in her 8th year being cancer free!

We still want to hear from you! E-mail us a photo of you with your personalized plate and tell us how you chose your plate’s message. Plates must be current and valid. You could be featured on BMV’s Facebook page and BMV’s official website. You could also win a decorative plate award with the personalization of your choice! Winners selected quarterly.
